Saumy Kumar Pandey was born on Thursday, 4 November 2004 (age 19 years; as of 2023) in Bharatpur, district Sidhi, Madhya Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Scorpio. He did his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya Number-1, Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. When he was five years old, during his Haridwar visit with his parents, a priest predicted that Saumy would become either an engineer or a doctor when he grew up. However, Saumy was unhappy with this prediction and expressed his desire to become a cricketer instead. When Saumy turned six years old, his father met cricket coach Aril Anthony. Together, they decided to enrol Saumy at the Vindh Cricket Academy, which was located about 30 kilometres away from his hometown of Bharatpur in Madhya Pradesh.

Career
At the age of 8, Saumy Pandey was selected to play for the Under-14 cricket team of DCA Sidhi for Rewa Division. At age 9, he began playing for the Under-14 team of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association. When he turned 16, Saumy Pandey played for the Under-19 cricket team of Madhya Pradesh and also captained it for some time. In 2023, Saumy Pandey was a part of the U19 High-Performance camp organized by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.
In December 2023, he made his international debut in Johannesburg and played against the Afghanistan U19 cricket team.

- Saumy Pandey’s father once mentioned in a media conversation that Saumy was born premature. As a child, he frequently suffered from cold, cough, and headaches due to changes in the weather. To improve his health, the doctor recommended some physical activities like cycling or swimming. His father said,
Since my wife and I returned home from work only in the evening, we had to find a suitable sport. We decided cricket would be a good option as he was inclined towards the sport. He used to keep the bat and ball close to him while sleeping as a kid.”
