Sayeed Quadri is an Indian lyricist and poet. He is known for his work in Bollywood films. He has written many superhit songs such as ‘Bheege Honth Tere,’ ‘Maula Mere Maula,’ ‘In Dino,’ ‘Haale-E-Dil,’ and ‘Phir Le Aaya Dil.’ In 2023, he appeared as a guest in the celebrity talk show ‘The Kapil Sharma Show,’ which aired on Sony TV.

Sayeed Quadri was born on Monday, 3 October 1960 (age 62 years; as of 2022) in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. After completing his studies, he moved to Mumbai in 1986 to pursue a career as a  lyricist in the Hindi film industry. However, he did not find any work there for seven years, and then, he decided to return back to his hometown. After a decade, he again shifted to Mumbai and established himself in the Hindi film industry as a successful lyricist.

Career

Film

Sayeed Quadri made his debut as a lyricist in the Hindi film industry with the film ‘Jism’ (2003) in which he wrote three songs. In the same year, he wrote all songs for the film ‘Saaya.’ In 2004, he wrote 4 songs for the film ‘Murder’ among which the song “Bheege Honth Tere” and “Kaho Na Kaho” became superhits and remained at topped the music, radio, and streaming charts for a long time.

In 2006, he wrote three songs “Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai,” “Ya Ali,” and “Mujhe Mat Roko” for the film ‘Gangster.’ The song “Maula Mere Maula” that he wrote for the film ‘Anwar’ (2007) was well received by the audience.

In 2011, he wrote three songs “Haale-E-Dil,” “Phir Mohobat,” and “Tujhko Bhulana” for the film ‘Murder 2.’ In 2020, he wrote the title track of the film ‘Khuda Haafiz.’ He has written songs for various films including ‘Paap’ (2003), ‘Kalyug’ (2005), ‘Life in a… Metro’ (2007), ‘Barfi!,’ (2012), ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ (2015) and ‘Ludo’ (2020).

Single 

In 2018, he wrote the lyrics of the song ‘Shab Tum Ho,’ sung by Darshan Raval. In 2019, he wrote the lyrics of the patriotic song ‘One India My India.’

He wrote the song ‘Tanhaai’ in 2020, which was sung by Tulsi Kumar. In 2021, he wrote the lyrics of the video song ‘Mehendi Wale Haath’ featuring Guru Randhawa and Sanjana Sanghi.

He has written lyrics for a few more video songs such as ‘Illtejaa’ (2018), ‘Rehguzar’ (2019), ‘Humko Tum Mil Gaye’ (2020), ‘Toh Aagaye Tum’ (2021), ‘Aur Payar Karna Hai’ (2021), ‘Is Qadar’ (2021), and ‘Tera Aqs’ (2022).

Facts/Trivia

• He was inclined towards writing poetry since he was a child and started writing poetry when he was in 8th standard.

• Before establishing himself as a successful lyricist, he worked as a LIC Agent for almost 10 years in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

• In an interview, he talked about his debut song and said that when he did not have a job, he used to go out of his house and during that time, he wrote the poem ‘Awaarpan Banjarapan’ which later became his debut song that was featured in the film ‘Jism’ (2003).
