Shailene Woodley , who achieved breakout success as the lead in “The Fault in Our Stars,” has been tapped to star opposite Theo James in Divergent. She joins forces with a boy named Four (James) to find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment will co-produce and distribute the film, which is set to begin production in early 2014. Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher are producing via their Red Wagon banner, along with Pouya Shahbazian. Neil Burger and Evan Daugherty wrote the screenplay.
“We were looking for a young actress with incredible natural talent and charisma to take on the role of Beatrice Prior, and we found that in Shailene,” said Lionsgate’s Erik Feig in a statement. “She captivated us with her performance in The Fault in Our Stars, and we believe she has the same potential to ignite Divergent.”
Woodley was most recently seen on the big screen opposite George Clooney in The Descendants and will next star alongside Miles Teller in Gregg Araki’s White Bird in a Blizzard. She’s repped by WME, Untitled Entertainment and Sloane Offer.
