Shankar Aswath is a South Indian actor and a cab driver. He is the son of the legendary South Indian actor Late K. S. Ashwath.

Shankar Aswath or Shankar Ashwath was born in 1958 (age 63 years; as of 2021) in Mysore, Karnataka. He did his schooling at Sarada Vilas High School, Mysore. In 1980, he attended JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru.

His wife, Sudha Shankar Ashwath, runs a catering service “Annapoorna Caterers” in Mysore. Shankar Aswath’s son, Skanda R Ashwath, is a national level swimmer and works as a swimming coach at the University of Mysuru.

Career

He followed his father’s footsteps and started his career in acting. He has acted in various Kannada films like ‘Nirbandha’ (1996), ‘Nandhi’ (2002), ‘Raaj the Showman’ (2009), and ‘RangiTaranga’ (2015).

He worked for almost 25 years in South Indian films, but could not get better opportunities. He then started working as a cab driver in Uber (a private cab-operating firm) in Bengaluru. In 2021, he participated in the TV reality show ‘Bigg Boss Kannada 8’ hosted by the famous South Indian actor Sudeep.

  • As per his Facebook account, his other name is Ravi.
  • In an interview, he talked about working as a cab driver, he said,

My father (K.S. Ashwath) has taught me to lead a self-sufficient life without making any compromises. I will not go around asking people for help. There is a need for everyone to work until they are healthy and save money for the autumn years of life. I drive cabs when there is no work in the industry for which I have no regret.”

  • According to him, because of his age and the generation gap in the film industry, he was not getting good roles.
  • He always wears a cap while driving a cab to avoid answering questions related to his identity from the customers. In an interview, he said that he never felt ashamed of his job as a cab driver. He further said,

My father would have been proud of my job. I halted my Uber cab to pay obeisance to his photograph hung on the compound wall of a street of Mysuru.”
