Speaking of her career, Sharla joined the Newswatch 16 team in April of 2008 as a weekend sports anchor, and weekday sports reporter. Her passion for reporting began in Athens, Georgia, while studying broadcast journalism, and international affairs at the University of Georgia. A graduate of UGA, Sharla roots for her “Dawgs” every chance she gets.
While in college, she interned at Atlanta’s FOX affiliate, WAGA-TV, and was later employed there as an associate sports producer. In May of 2007, Sharla started working as a sports reporter and fill-in anchor at the ABC affiliate, KTXS-TV, Abilene, TX.
In March of 2012, Sharla began freelancing as a sports anchor at CSN Philadelphia (now NBC Sports Philadelphia), anchoring “SportsNite” on weekdays. May 2012, Sharla began freelancing as a sports reporter at CSN Philadelphia and anchored “SportsNite” on weekdays. Sharla started working at her present job as a weekend sports anchor, and weekday sports reporter with the NewsWatch 16 team.

On February 28, 2020, it was announced that WNEP-TV’s top anchors, Sharla McBride were to leave the station in March. In the previous week, she had disclosed that she was leaving for WUSA-TV one of the top stations on the East coast in Washington, DC., where she was to be a sports anchor and reporter. She co-anchored the evening newscasts weekdays at 6 pm, 7 pm, and 11 pm on WNEP. She also produced the 10 pm newscast weekdays on WNEP-2. 2019.
“I am now taking on my most difficult challenge yet, but one that I am extremely excited about. I will soon be the newest Sports Anchor/Reporter in Washington D.C. at WUSA-TV,” McBride writes in a Facebook announcement.
McBride’s last day at WNEP was on March 6 and her last broadcast at the station was in the 6 p.m. newscast. She’s been at WNEP for the last 12 years, as she points out in her announcement.
“12 years. 12 years of laughter. 12 years of learning. 12 years of living. 12 years of covering 19 counties in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. Many of you remember when I first moved here…a young sports reporter, new to the state, and relatively new to this career. I was scared, but you all made me feel so welcome,” she writes. “Life is about opportunity, and when God opens doors, I believe in walking through them. I look forward to the big opportunity that awaits and promise to never forget my 4,380 days spent here in NEPA.”
McBride along with producer Emily Fedor and photographer, Greg Eibach took home awards for “Outstanding Television Breaking News Report” on WNEP. As we speak, Mcbride works alongside Scott Schaffer on the network’s 6 p.m., 7 p.m., 10 p.m., and 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts.

On a Thursday night, November 31st, 2019, WNEP’s own, Sharla Mcbride underwent vocal cord surgery. But before that, she had posted to Facebook to update fans on her condition just before undergoing the surgery, and that she would be off the air “for a little bit”:
“I won’t get into too many details but I WILL BE OK. I will get through this and be better than ever. The next few weeks won’t be the easiest as this part of recovery is painful, and requires me to live silently (yes, no talking for this talkative girl) You won’t be seeing me on TV for a little bit, but I will return and I can’t wait for that day. I appreciate your prayers. Your kind words mean so much.”
