Shreyas Talpade is an Indian actor, director, theatre artist, and producer, who mainly works in Hindi and Marathi films. He came into the limelight with the Hindi film ‘Iqbal’ (2005) in which he played the role of Iqbal.

Shreyas Anil Talpade was born on Tuesday, 27 January 1976 (age 47 years; as of 2023) in Mumbai. His zodiac sign is Aquarius.
He did his schooling at Shree Ram Welfare Society’s High School, Andheri West, Mumbai. He then pursued graduation from Mithibai College of Arts, Chauhan Institute of Science & Amrutben Jivanlal College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. He was inclined towards acting since childhood. While he was in school, he acted in stage plays in which he played the roles like Sita and Draupadi.

Theatre
Shreyas started his career as a theatre artist, and in the initial years of his career, he used to perform in at least 30-35 shows a month. On 9 April 2021, he started an OTT platform for theatre called ‘Nine Rasa.’

He has acted in various Marathi TV serials like ‘Avantika’ (2001), ‘Ek Hota Raja’ (2003), ‘Bedhund Manachi Lahar’ (2003), and ‘Mazhi Tuzhi Reshimgath’ (2021).
Hindi
He made his television debut with the Hindi TV serial ‘Woh’ (1998) in which he played the role of young Ashutosh Dhar.
In 2017, he appeared as one of the judges in the fifth season of the TV comedy show ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge.’

In 2001, Shreyas made his film debut with the Marathi film ‘Bhet.’
He has appeared in many Marathi films like ‘Aai Shappath..!’ (2006), ‘Sanai Choughade’ (2008), ‘Poshter Boyz’ (2014), and ‘Aapdi Thaapdi’ (2022).
Hindi
He debuted in Bollywood with the 2002 film ‘Aankhen’ as Mushtaq Chaiwala.
In 2005, he gained immense popularity for his performance in the Hindi film ‘Iqbal’ in which he played the titular role.
He then appeared in films like ‘Apna Sapna Money Money’ (2006), ‘Dor’ (2006), and ‘Aggar’ (2007).
He played the role of Shah Rukh Khan‘s best friend in the 2007 film ‘Om Shanti Om.’

Controversies
Legal Notice for a Film
In 2016, Shreyas, along with the makers of the Marathi film ‘Wah Taj,’ received a legal notice for spreading wrong information among the public. The team of ‘Wah Taj’ film distributed the posters in and around Agra claiming that the Taj Mahal will be closed to tourists from 23 September 2016, following a court judgement in the Tukaram case. Later, it was clarified by the makers of the film that it was a promotional stunt that misled the public. In an interview, while talking about the incident Shreyas said,
I got to know that there has been a legal notice sent to the makers of the film, but it was just a part of the movie promotions and marketing strategy, I don’t understand why it is taken to another level by blowing it up.”
Alleged of Theft
In 2021, the film producer Rahul Bhandare accused Shreyas Talpade and Suresh Sawant (Indian film director) of stealing the set of the Marathi theatre play Albatya Galbatya which is owned by Rahul. While talking to the reporters, Rahul said that amid the coronavirus lockdown, Shreyas and Suresh used the set of Albatya Galbatya for shooting a TV commercial. He filed a complaint in the Shivdi Police Station under Intellectual Property Rights. He further said that Shreyas and Suresh violated the COVID-19 guidelines several times and did not take his permission for using his properties. Later, Shreyas denied all such allegations.

Facts/Trivia
- During his graduation, he participated in dramatics, but his mother wanted him to work in a bank. He even appeared for the banking entrance exams, but could not clear.
- In an interview, he shared a memory from his struggling days. He said,
I remember going to Mukta Arts office in Bandra to drop off my pictures because Subhash Ghai was casting for a film and I was angling for a role, not for the lead. While climbing those stairs, I saw posters of his blockbusters including Karma and Ram Lakhan and thought, ‘Oh God, when will I have a poster like this?’ A few years later, they called to cast me in Apna Sapna Money Money and as I climbed up the stairs, I saw a big poster of Iqbal on the wall. That moment was both fulfilling and humbling.”
- In his leisure time, he loves to read books and do meditation.
- During an interview, he revealed why the director of the film ‘Iqbal’ (2005) Nagesh Kukunoor asked him to cancel his wedding. He said,
Here I was, a middle-class guy whose wedding cards had gone out, being told to cancel it; I didn’t know what to do. It was after a lot of convincing, and assuring him that I would keep the wedding under wraps, that he let me have a day off. When Subhash ji saw her (his wife) too many times at screenings and enquired, Nagesh told him who she really was. He refused to believe I was married. To him, I was an 18-year-old boy who had a child marriage and was not even feeding his wife, making her faint (laughs).”
- In 2009, he expressed his desire to join a political party. At that time, he used to idolise the then Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh. During an interview, while talking about it, he said,
Though I did not get a chance to meet our Prime Minister, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to his speech on various topics like the 26/11 issue and the economic meltdown. It was well thought-out and well-spoken. Interestingly, I had contested elections during college days, when I had bagged only four votes. That was a time when I felt I should try my hand at everything, so I stood for college elections too. It was a great experience.”

On 15 December 2023, he underwent an angioplasty at Bellevue Hospital in Mumbai following which his condition was reported to be stable.
