Shruti Choudhry is an Indian politician and a member of the Indian National Congress party. She contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh constituency. She has served as a member of various Lok Sabha committees.

Shruti Choudhry was born on Friday, 3 October 1975 (age 48 years; as of 2023) in New Delhi. Her zodiac sign is Libra.
In 1991, she completed her primary education at the Convent of Jesus & Mary school and then went to Oxford, England for her further studies. In 1997, she attained a BA degree from Dyal Singh College, University of Delhi. In 2000, she completed an LL.B. degree at B. R. Ambedkar University in Agra. Later, she practised law at Karanjewala & Co. for some time before entering into politics. In 2005, after the sudden demise of her father in a plane crash, her grandfather Bansi Lal, in a rare and sudden gesture, acknowledged her as the next kin to enter into politics, by putting the pagri on her head in front of a mourning public. This event led her to venture into politics. In an interview, she talked about this and said,
Honestly speaking, when I started out, I had mixed feelings about all this. The magnitude of the responsibility overwhelmed me, and I was aware that serving the people is possibly one of the toughest jobs in the world. I knew because I had seen my family do this for ages.”

Parents
Shruti Choudhry’s father, Surender Singh (1946 – 2005), was a politician representing the Haryana Vikas Party. He was also a Member of Parliament from 1986-1992. At the age of 59, he died in a chopper crash during an emergency landing in the Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh on 31 March 2005.
Her mother, Kiran Choudhry, is a member of the Indian National Congress. The same seat was also represented in the assembly by her father-in-law, Bansi Lal and her late husband, Surender Singh.

On 7 March 2003, Shruti Choudhry tied the knot with Arunabh Chowdhary, who is a lawyer. In an interview with Hindustan Times, she said,
Luckily, my husband Arunabh, also a lawyer, is a people’s person and is extremely compassionate and generous. He has been a great support every step of the way.”

Career
Shruti Choudhry turned to politics after the sudden demise of her father in 2005. She contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh constituency on a ticket of the Indian National Congress. In this election, she defeated her nearest rival Ajay Singh Chautala of the Indian National Lok Dal by a margin of 55,097 votes. The Lok Sabha seat of the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh constituency was previously held by her grandfather, Bansi Lal for three tenures (1980-84, 1984-89 and 1989-91), and her father, Surender Singh for two tenures (1996-98 and 1998-99).
