Smriti Mishra was born in 1998 (age 25 years; as of 2023) in Bharadwaj Puram, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Her family hails from the Allahapur locality of Prayagraj. She did her schooling at St. Clair’s Higher Secondary School, Agra. She secured 96.6% marks in her class 12 examination. After completing her schooling, Smriti moved to Noida with her brother and rented a house in sector 41. Smriti attended Miranda House College, Delhi University, Delhi, to pursue a B.Sc. in Life Sciences. In 2023, she appeared for the final semester examination of her law course. Growing up, Smriti noticed her father serving society and got inspired by him. While she was in class 10, she decided to become an Indian Administrative Service officer and started preparing for it. Smiti failed in the Civil Service Examination twice (did not even clear the prelims). However, she did not lose hope and appeared for the examination again in 2022. In her third attempt, Smriti cracked the UPSC Civil Services Examination, securing an All-India Rank 4.

Smriti Mishra’s father, Rajkumar Mishra, is a Deputy Superintendent of Police who is posted as CO (second) with the Uttar Pradesh Police at Bareilly. Raj Kumar started as a sub-inspector in Uttar Pradesh Police in 1989. He was promoted to DSP in 2021. Smriti’s mother, Anita Mishra, is a homemaker. She has an elder brother, Lokesh Mishra, who is an advocate at the Supreme Court of India.

  • Smriti admires Noida’s first woman police commissioner Laxmi Singh.
  • Smriti stayed away from social media for around 3 years to prepare for the civil service exams. In an interview, while talking about it, she said,

    I gave up social media and distanced myself from social gatherings and focused on studying. This was my third attempt and I am very happy to have secured the fourth rank.”

  • In an interview, she revealed that she studied regularly for eight hours and prepared notes daily to appear in the civil services examination.
  • The UPSC CSE results were announced in May 2023 and the top four positions were secured by women with Ishita Kishore on AIR-1, Garima Lohia on AIR-2, Uma Harathi N on AIR-3, and Smriti Mishra on AIR-4.

  • Since Smriti was from Prayagraj, in the interview round of UPSC, she was asked about Kumbh Mela- how the mela was organised and how such a huge crowd could be managed. As she was a law student, she was also asked if she had to choose something between law and life, and what would she choose, to which Smriti replied that she would go with the law as it makes the lives of people simple and easy to live.
