Storm Field Biography

Storm Field is an American retired television meteorologist known for his meteorological work in the New York media market. He followed his father, a longtime New York weatherman Dr. Frank Field, into the business.

Storm Field Age

Field was born as Elliott David Field on November 25, 1948, in the United States.

Storm Field WABC

His first foray into weather casting came as part of WABC’s Eyewitness News program. In March 1976, Field was hired by the station and he made his first appearances on television when covering Hurricane Belle, followed by working when Tex Antoine was ill. He also did the weekend weather broadcasts as well as the 11 pm weather broadcast on weekdays.

On November 29, 1976, he became the permanent forecaster as a replacement for one discontinued Antoine, who had been suspended after an inappropriate remark touching a rape story five days earlier.

His primary responsibilities were the 6 PM and 11 PM newscasts, with other forecasters such as Ira Joe Fisher and Sam Champion appearing on the 5 PM newscast. In 1978, Field joined the morning team with Shelli Sonstein and Jimmy Fink at New York radio station WPLJ.

Apart from doing his weather duties, in 1981, Field became the anchor of the 5 PM Eyewitness News broadcast, working alongside Tracy Egan and (later) Kaity Tong. He anchored until 1983, when Tom Snyder took over the newscast, and subbed off and on until 1984.

Field left WABC in 1991 and was replaced by Sam Champion on the 6 PM and 11 PM Eyewitness News broadcasts.

Storm Field WCBS

After leaving WABC, Field joined his father Dr. Frank Field at WCBS, on August 24, 1992, making it the first time the two had worked together.

In anticipation of his debut WCBS shot a series of commercials with Field and his father using puns on both meteorologists’ names. He remained with WCBS until 1997, succeeding Irv Gikofsky as the station’s chief meteorologist and afterwards he moved to WCBS’ morning newscast toward the end of his time there.

Storm Field WWOR

His third and last weather post was at WWOR in 1997, where he used to report on the station’s 10 PM newscast and also served as WWOR’s chief meteorologist. While working at WWOR, Field got another chance to work alongside his father who was hired by WWOR as a weekend weathercaster in the early 2000s prior to retiring.

Field left WWOR in 2007 after a whole decade due to cutbacks at both WWOR and sister station WNYW and was replaced by former WCBS weather personality Audrey Puente.
