Sumit Arora is an Indian screenwriter and director, who penned the dialogues of films like Stree (2018), The Family Man (2019), and Jawan (2023). He has worked as a scriptwriter for the popular TV series 24 (2013), Dahaad (2023), and Dil Mill Gayye (2007).

Sumit Arora was born in 1991 (age 32 years; as of 2023) in Meerut. He has been very fond of cricket since childhood. He wanted to become a cricketer. Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar were his favourite cricketer. While growing up he realised that his potential was more inclined towards becoming a writer than a cricketer. In an interview, he revealed,
I have been a mad cricket fan since childhood. I wanted to be a cricketer even before I thought of becoming a writer. Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and all my heroes. When I was growing up, that was the only World Cup India had won before 2011. I wanted to be in the cricket team. Then I realised I’m not a good cricketer at all, I’m a good writer.”
Sumit Arora grew up learning Hindi literature from his mother. He completed his primary education at a Hindi medium school and did his graduation in Hindi Literature. In an interview, while recalling his formative years, he said,
I studied in a Hindi medium school. I didn’t know how to speak English. My mother gave me the habit of reading from an early age, I used to read stories from (magazines) like Nandan, and then I graduated to literary magazines like Hans, Gyanodaya, and others. By the age of 17 and 18, I had columns published in Hindi newspapers. Satire was my forte.”

Career
In 2006, at the age of 15, Sumit Arora went to Mumbai to work in Hindi films as a writer. He started writing for television series and shows like Chhoona Hai Aasmaan (2007), Dill Mill Gayye (2007), 24 (2013), and Little Things (season 3-2019, season 4-2021). After gaining success he started getting work in films as a writer. Sumit Arora made his directorial debut with White Shirt, a 2015 short film. Stree, a horror-comedy film in 2018, was his first film as a dialogue writer. He further did dialogue and screenwriting for several popular films and web series like The Family Man (2019), Jawan (2023), Guns & Gulaabs (2023), Ginny Weds Sunny (2020), and 83 (2021). His forthcoming projects include Chandu Champion, which will be released on 14 June 2024.

- In an interview, when asked about his writing style, Sumit Arora stated,
There are two things, I do dialogues on some projects and I do a full script sometimes. Both have different styles. When I get a screenplay, the first thing I try to build in my head is, Who are these people? I have conversations with the directors, and with the screenplay writers. And then I try to write my own about the characters and their world. so that I understand the characters fully well. So I try to know all of that about my characters when I pen their scenes.”

I do enjoy reading a lot of Hindi poetry. So I do write some poetry for myself which at some point in my life I would like to make a book out of eventually.”
