Controversy
Target of Racism
Taral Patel in September 2023 revealed that he faced racist and hateful messages on social media. Online critics questioned his American birth, accused him of trying to take away freedom and guns, and made derogatory comments about his faith and community. Patel, a Democrat, emphasized that while he welcomes criticism of his policies, these attacks are unacceptable. He highlighted the diversity of Fort Bend County and attributed such hate to misguided fears fueled by figures like former President Donald Trump. Patel, who grew up in the county, expressed pride in being an American and emphasized his campaign’s focus on hard work and respect for all communities. He put out a statement saying,
As your Democratic candidate for County Commissioner, I am always open to criticism of my policy positions and stances on issues. However, when my Republican opponent’s supporters decide to hurl racist, anti-immigrant, Hinduphobic, or otherwise disgusting insults at my family, faith, community, colleagues, and me – that crosses a line.”
Since announcing for Commissioner, I have worked tirelessly to connect with the diverse communities that call our County home.
Our campaign is based on the values of: compassion, hard work, and respect for all.
