Umer Aalam was born as Umer Iqbal in Sialkot, Punjab, Pakistan.
After completing his school education, he enrolled in an engineering course at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (now COMSATS University) in Islamabad. However, he later found it uninteresting, and after studying for two semesters, he switched to BBA. He also studied at the Indus Group of Colleges in Rawalpindi. Later, he moved to Karachi to pursue his dream of becoming an actor.

Theatre
Umer Aalam started performing in theatre plays while studying in college. He has performed in the play ‘Siachen’ by Anwar Maqsood and received huge praise from the audience. In 2015, he started working with a theatre group named KopyKats Productions in Islamabad, Pakistan. He later worked for the theatre groups ‘Theatre Wallay’ and ‘Blind Bachelors Production.’
Film
Umer Aalam made his debut in the film industry with the Ali Rehman Khan starrer Urdu film ‘Parchi’ (2018) in which he made a short appearance as a mobile snatcher. He played the role of Asad in the short film ‘Dia’ in 2018.
In 2019, he appeared as a truck driver in the Urdu film ‘Chhalawa.’ His performance as Jamaal in the Urdu film ‘Carma’ (2022) received immense appreciation from the audience and critics.
In 2023, the actor essayed the role of Saqlain Mushtaq in the biographical film ‘Rawalpindi Express,’ based on the life of Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar. In the same year, Umer appeared in the film ‘Taxali,’ starring Yasir Hussain.

In 2019, Umer Aalam appeared in a supporting role in the TV drama series ‘Meri Shaadi Karwao,’ which aired on the channel Play TV. He played the role of Ahmed in the television drama series ‘Raqs-e-Bismil’ (2020), featuring Imran Ashraf and Sarah Khan. The drama series was aired on HUM TV.
In 2021, he appeared in the TV series ‘Pehli Si Muhabbat’ in which he played the role of Nadeem. The series was broadcast on the channel ARY Digital. He appeared alongside Aagha Ali in the telefilm ‘Bhagam Bhag’ (2022), which aired on ARY Digital. He played the role of Tipu in the film.

He has walked the ramp at various fashion shows. In December 2022, he walked as a showstopper at the Pantene HUM Bridal Couture Week, held at Pearl Continental Hotel in Lahore.

- He had a passion for acting since he was a child.
- In an interview, he revealed that when he started working in the entertainment industry, his mentor suggested he to change his name. He said that he added his grandfather’s name, i.e., ‘Aalam,’ as a suffix to his name and changed his name from ‘Umer Iqbal’ to ‘Umer Aalam’ in 2020.
- He often endorses the Zeera Plus biscuits on his Instagram handle.
- In an interview, he revealed that he got popular as an actor after winning the reality TV show ‘Tamasha Season 1.’ He said,
Before Tamasha, I would be out somewhere and people would nudge each other and whisper that it seemed like I was an actor. Now, they know me as Umer Aalam, winner of Tamasha, rather than the hero’s brother or the hero’s friend. Tamasha helped me cover three or four years’ struggle that would have been required to get myself recognised.”
