Venky held the position of chairman of the Bangalore chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce from 2002 to 2003. He has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, with a background in North America and in establishing operations in Asia. He worked with MetLife for over 21 years, leaving the company as the managing director of PNB MetLife India Insurance Company Limited in 2010. Until 2 January 2007, he worked as the country head of India Division and vice president of Sun Life Financial Asia at Sun Life Financial Inc. He held positions as a non-executive and non-independent director of Gujarat Sidhee Cement Ltd, a director at Birla Sun Life Insurance Company Limited, independent non-executive director at Oberoi Realty Limited, and director of Birla Sun Life Asset Management Company Limited. In 2010, he joined Shah Rukh Khan‘s IPL team, KKR. He played a key role in the Kolkata Knight Riders acquiring the Caribbean Premier League team Trinbago Knight Riders (formerly Trinidad and Tobago Red Steels).

- In 2022, Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) Shreyas Iyer alleged that Venky Mysore, the CEO of Kolkata Knight Riders, was getting involved in choosing the team, and many ex-players criticized him for interfering in cricket-related decisions. Later, Shreyas Iyer clarified that there was a misunderstanding. When he mentioned the CEO’s name, it was to highlight the positive role of consoling players who were not selected, acknowledging the emotional challenge they faced.
