Vijay Kavish is a popular Indian film and television actor who is best known for playing multiple roles in Ramanand Sagar‘s epic television series Ramayan.

Vijay Kavish was born in Mumbai. Since childhood, he was passionate about acting and after his schooling, he attended the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi.
Career
After graduating from NSD, Kavish made his acting debut with the popular Bollywood film Salma (1985). He made his television debut with Ramanand Sagar‘s epic mythological television series Ramayan (1987). In Ramayan, Kavish appeared in three different roles of Lord Shiva, Mayasura, and Maharishi Valmiki.
Mayasura was the foster father of Mandodari (wife of Ravan). Kavish played the role od Maharishi Valmiki in Ramanand Sagar’s other projects also; such as Uttar Ramayan and Lav Kush.
Ramayan went on to become one of the most successful television shows in India, and Vijay Kavish’s versatile acting made hin a household name in the country. Besides Ramayan, he appeared in many other popular television shows, including Vikram Aur Betaal and Shri Krishna. In Shri Krishna, he played the dual role of Ugrasena and Lord Shiva.
He also appeared in the popular Doordarshan show “Idhar Udhar” (1985) alongside Ratna Pathak and Supriya Pathak.

- When he played the triple roles of Lord Shiva, Mayasura, and Maharishi Valmiki in Ramayan, he was just 22 years old.
- In an interview, he told that initially, Ramanand Sagar had offered him the role of Lord Shiva in Ramayan; however, as the show progressed, he was asked to play two more roles of Mayasura, and Maharishi Valmiki. Interestingly, Kavish played these roles so diligently that it became like a riddle for the audience that the same person had performed these triple roles.
- Reportedly, he wrapped a real snake around his neck while portraying Lord Shiva in Ramayan.
- Kavish has also tried his hand in screenplay writing, story writing, and dialogue writing.
