Vikram Prabhu is an Indian actor. he primarily works in the Tamil film industry. He is known for being the son of Tamil actor Prabhu Ganesan.

Vikram Prabhu was born on Thursday, 15 January 1986 (age 38 years; as of 2024) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. His zodiac sign is Capricorn. He completed an MBA degree at a renowned university in San Diego, US. Once, in a media interview, Vikram Prabhu narrated that when he completed his higher studies in the US, he shifted to India and started working in his family’s film production house Sivaji Productions in 2005 and assisted in the production of the popular Tamil film Chandramukhi.

His father’s name is Prabhu Ganesan, and he is a noted Tamil actor and film producer. His mother’s name is Punitha. Prabhu Ganesan and Punitha got married to each other in 1982 and parented a son and a daughter named Vikram Prabhu and Aishwarya Prabhu. However, in the late 1980s, Prabhu Ganeshan began living in a live-in relationship with the veteran Tamil actress Khushbu Sundar. At this time, Prabhu Ganesan was still married to Vikram’s mother. On 12 September 1993, Vikram’s father got married to Khushbu and got legally separated from Vikram’s mother after four months.
His grandfather, Sivaji Ganesan, was a prominent Tamil actor. His grandmother’s name is Nirmala Ganesan.
His uncle, Ramkumar Ganesan, works as a producer in the Tamil film industry.
Vikram Prabhu has a sister named Aishwarya Prabhu. Soon after her marriage, Aishwarya moved to the US along with her husband and started her own business organisation there. She owns and manages a baking venture named Meltz Desertz in the US, and this baking concern delivers cakes to its clients at their doorstep.

Films
Vikram Prabhu made his film debut in 2012 with the Tamil film Kumki as Bomman, a Mahout. Prabhu Solomon was the director of this film and was produced by N. Linguswamy. The concept of the film was based on elephants, thereby, Vikram Prabhu needed to be familiar with the elephants before actually facing them on screen, so he began training at an elephant training camp in Ottapalam in Kerala as advised by the director of the film.
Vikram Prabhu was cast in the action thriller film Ivan Veramathiri as Gunasekaran in December 2013, and the film was directed by M. Saravanan. He appeared in the film alongside Tamil actors Vamsi Krishna and Ganesh Venkatraman. Vikram Prabhu played the role of a student in the film and his performance in the film earned him many positive reviews from film critics. One of such film critics mentioned in a newspaper article that Vikram was emerging as an action hero in the film industry, and he had to work hard on his dance skills. Critic wrote,
Vikram Prabhu “is convincing as an action hero, especially in the raw and realistic climax fight scene, but has to work on his dance a bit more.”
Vikram Prabhu then appeared in another action thriller film Arima Nambi as Arjun Krishna, which was directed by Anand Shankar in 2014. Reportedly, Anand Shankar was once the assistant director of A. R. Murugadoss.
In the same year, Vikram Prabhu worked in Tamil filmmaker Gaurav’s film Sigaram Thodu as SI Muralipandian, which was a family action entertainer. In this film, Vikram played a double role and appeared alongside Tamil actors Sathyaraj and Monal Gajjar.
At the end of the year 2014, on 25 December, his third film, Vellaikaara Durai was released. This film was directed by Ezhil, and Vikram appeared alongside Sridivya in the film, which was a super hit.

Vikram Prabhu then appeared in the film Veera Sivaji as Sivaji in 2016. In the same year, he founded his own venture and a film production house “First Artist.” He worked in the film Wagah in 2016. Several film critics blamed the filmmakers for writing poor dialogues and muddled script of the film Wagah; however, his performance in the film received a good score. It described,

In 2017, Vikram Prabhu appeared in the gangster thriller film Sathriyan as Gunasekaran “Guna”. His character in the film was an angry young man, which earned him immense acclaim. Soon after the release of the film, many film critics penned a note in renowned newspapers and magazines that Vikram Prabhu was an ideal hero to play the role of angry men in films. It read,
Vikram Prabhu is perfect as the angry young man. His body language and dialogue deliver aptly suit his characterization, easily Sathriyan is his comeback film as an actor.”
In the same year, Vikram Prabhu produced a Tamil language film Neruppu Da under his own banner and production company.
Vikram Prabhu then appeared in a double role in the comedy film Pakka in 2018 alongside Tamil actors Nikki Galrani, who played the role of lead actress in the film opposite Vikram, and Bindu Madhavi appeared as supporting actress. He worked in two more films in the same year – 60 Vayadu Maaniram (2018) and the action thriller Thuppakki Munai (2018).
Thereafter, Vikram Prabhu appeared as Selva in the Tamil film Vaanam Kottatum alongside veteran Tamil actors R. Sarathkumar and Raadhika in 2020, and the film was directed by Tamil filmmaker Dhana Sekaran. The noted film director Mani Ratnam was the co-producer and co-writer of the film.
Vikram Prabhu’s heist thriller film Asuraguru was released in the same year and was ranked below average at the box office. In 2022, he appeared in the film Ponniyin Selvan: I as Parthibendra Pallavan.

In 2012, Vikram Prabhu was honoured with the Vijay Award for Best Debut Actor for the film Kumki. In the same year, he received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize – Best Actor for the film Kumki and earned the SIIMA Award for Best Debut Actor for the film Kumki. In 2014, Vikram Prabhu was honoured with the Audi Ritz icon awards.

- In December 2012, when Vikram Prabhu’s debut film Kumki was released at the box office, the film became a super hit due to its picturization and story. According to the box office analysis, the film was ranked among the top hit films of the year. Vikram’s performance in the film was critically praised by some film critics. One such critic cited that Vikram was at ease while portraying the angry character in the film. The critic mentioned,
Prabhu excels in the “intensely emotional scenes in the climax”, while that “he is also at ease portraying angst, gratitude and rage.”
On the other side, his physique in the film was regarded as a plus point for the success of the film. Another critic said,
“his physique is a major plus”, giving the verdict that he “is expected to carry on the Ganesan family lineage” in film.”
- Reportedly, when Vikram Prabhu was working on the film Kumki in 2012, then during the same year, he was associated with another film titled Sattam Oru Iruttarai, which was a remake of the 1981 film with the same name. The director of the film Sattam Oru Iruttarai was Sneha in 2012, and its old version was directed by Tamil director Vijay in 1981. Vikram was chosen to play the role of an angry young man in the film Sattam Oru Iruttarai, and the plot of the film revolved around his fight against the legal system in the country. In May 2012, Sneha began directing the film Sattam Oru Iruttarai; however, Vikram Prabhu was called by the director of ‘Kumki’ to reshot the climax of his film. Consequently, Vikram went to work on the climax of the film Kumki and left Sattam Oru Iruttarai in middle, and this caused a long delay, which made Sattam Oru Iruttarai’s makers replace Vikram Prabhu with Thaman Kumar, a newcomer in the Tamil cinema in 2012.
