Vinay Forrt was born on Thursday, 13 January 1983 (age 40 years; as of 2023) in Fort Kochi, Kerala, India. His zodiac sign is Capricorn. He was born Vinay Kumar but later changed his name to Vinay Forrt to pay tribute to his birthplace. He studied at St John De Britto Anglo-Indian High School, Fort Kochi. He earned a degree in acting from the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune, India.

In 2011, Vinay Forrt visited MG University to perform a play. Soumya and Vinay met there through their mutual friends and eventually dated for three years before they tied the knot in 2014.

Films
In 2009, he debuted in the Malayalam-language film Ritu directed by Shyamaprasad in which he played the role of a gay person. In 2011, he starred in the Indian-Canadian thriller film ‘The Blueberry Hunt,’ an English and Hindi language film, alongside Naseeruddin Shah, which was released in India 5 years later, i.e., in 2016.
In 2012, he appeared in one of the lead roles in the Malayalam film Navagatharkku Swagatham; however, the film did not perform well at the box office. In the same year, he played the role of Nanmayil Suran in the Malayalam thriller film Shutter. The film proved to be a success and was screened at the 9th Dubai International Film Festival and the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala.
In 2014, he played the role of Shan Shahar in the Malayalam-language film 7th Day. In 2015, he got his breakthrough with the Malayalam-language film Premam in which he played the role of Vimal Sir. He achieved overnight popularity with his great comic timing and unique dialogue delivery style in the film, so much so that some of his dialogues like ‘Java simple aanu.. pinne powerful.. powerfullumaanu” developed a cult following.
In 2015, he starred as the lead in the comedy thriller Malayalam-language film Urumbukal Urangarilla. He appeared in various other Malayalam-language films such as Kohinoor (2015), Karma Cartel (2015), Rasputin (2015), Kammatti Paadam (2016), Hello Namasthe (2016), Kismath (2016), Georgettans Pooram (2017), Role Models (2017) and God Say (2017). In 2019 he played the lead role of Srinivasan who has a hair-thinning problem in the Malayalam-language film ‘Thamasha,’ which earned him immense appreciation, and some critics described it as one of his best performances. Later, he was appreciated for his roles in various other Malayalam-language films like Paapam Cheyyathavar Kalleriyatte (2020), Mohan Kumar Fans (2021), and Malik (2021).
Television
In 2011, he made his television debut as a host of the reality show ‘Vivel Big Break.’ In 2016, he hosted the show ‘Comedy Super Nights 2.’
In 2020, he played the role of Roy in the Malayalam sitcom ‘Uppum Mulakum;’ he played the role of Soman in the second season of the show.

- In 2015, Vinay Forrt received the Asianet Comedy Award in the category of Best Pair along with Soubin Shahir for his work in the film Premam.

- Vinay Forrt took up various small jobs at places such as a restaurant, a coffee shop, a medical shop, and a call centre before he entered the film industry. During his first year in college, he joined the Lokadharmi Theater and became an active artist there. In 2004, he received the National Scholarship from the Government of India for the Best Senior Theatre Actor which continued till 2006. During his post-graduation at FTII, Pune he came across an audition for Shyamaprasad’s movie, Ritu, while having a conversation with an FTII aspirant. Later, he auditioned and was chosen to play the role of Jamal, a gay, in the film Ritu.
- According to Vinay, films only reach out to a particular crowd, whereas TV shows connect to a greater audience. He believes that being in a movie hall limits the options for the audience, while watching TV shows, people can always switch channels if they don’t enjoy a particular show, which is why he started hosting TV shows.
- Vinay does not consume any alcoholic drinks, and playing the role of Harishchandran, an anarchist and a drunkard, in the Malayalam-language film God Say (2017) was challenging for him.
