Controversies
Caution: No More Remix!
In 2019, he raised his voice against the culture of remixing songs in Bollywood. While talking about his song ‘Saaki’ from Bollywood film Musafir (2004), Dadlani said that he would sue anyone who would try to remix Vishal-Shekhar songs anymore. The song ‘Saaki’ was recreated by Tanishk Bagchi for the Bollywood film Batla House (2019). In an interview, Dadlani talked about this and said,
This is not about one song, one person, one company or one remix. This is about a screwed-up system that allows the exploitation of what should be a composer’s legacy without any regard for the original composers themselves.”
Mocking a Jain monk
In 2016, Vishal tweeted a disrespectful tweet while showing anger and making fun of Jain monk Muni Tarun Sagar. Muni’s followers heavily criticised him and asked him to render an apology. He tweeted,
“If you voted for these people, YOU are responsible for this absurd nonsense! No #AchcheDin, just #NoKachcheDin.”
Punjab and Haryana High Court fined him for the Tweet. Later on, he decided to meet the monk and apologize for the big mistake he made.
Chennai Express: Dadlani and Honey Singh Row
Reportedly, when Honey Singh was offered a song in Shah Rukh khan’s film ‘Chennai Express’ Dadlani was not happy with the decision of Shah Rukh Khan and the team of ‘Chennai Express’ as he did not want a singer like Honey Singh to get associated with the project. Earlier, Dadlani had criticized Honey Singh for his misogynistic approach to his songs. Dadlani tweeted,
“It’s hilarious and pathetic, how desperately this tacky rap-rapper is trying to ride on the fame of @iamsrk and #ChennaiExpress. Poor guy”.
Honey Singh came to promote his song “Saiyan Ji” with Nushrat Bharucha on the set of Indian Idol 12, where Vishal and Honey hugged each other, both performed with the contestants and enjoyed the show.
