However, things started to fall apart in 2016, roughly two years after Carter launched several mixtapes. The release of Carter V was highly anticipated, but the musician quickly confirmed that it will not be released.

In 2021, Young Thug appeared on Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM and shared his connection with Lil Wayne. He stated that everything that had happened in the past had been a misunderstanding, and they had at last come to terms with it.
