Will There Be a ‘Spider-Man 4’: Here’s What We Know

After the global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel and Spider-Man fans alike have been eager to see where the franchise goes next. The return of several fan-favorite characters, including Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men, was celebrated in No Way Home, which welcomed back several prior cast members including director Sam Raimi.

Both Jon Watts (director of No Way Home) and Sam Raimi (director of The Gift) have suggested that Spider-Man will continue to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent interviews. So, will there be a Spider-Man 4? Will There Be a ‘Spider-Man 4’: Here’s What We Know.

Will there be a ‘Spider-Man 4’?

In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Sam Raimi revealed what his ambitions for Spider-Man 4 were back in the early 2000s. He said that the fourth film was canceled due to script issues at first, but that he wanted to see Bruce Campbell play Mysterio (who would go on to be played by Jake Gyllenhaal in Spider-Man: Far From Home) and Kraven the Hunter.

After the release of Sony’s Kraven the Hunter, which is also getting its own film, and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, both set for debut, Rolling Stone asked Sam Whether he would ever direct a fourth Spider-Man film with Tobey Maguire. Fans went crazy when Raimi responded.

“My affection for the characters has not diminished in any way,” he added to Rolling Stone. “It would be the same things that would stop me now that stopped me then: ‘Does Tobey want to do it? Is there an emotional arc for him? Is there a great conflict for this character? And is there a worthy villain that fits into the theme of the piece?’ There’s a lot of questions that would have to be answered. If those could be answered, then I’d love to.”

New Rumors Fly About Spidey Sequels

In closing, Smith said he would like to return to the character in future Spider-Man films after having success with Homecoming and Venom. A fourth Spider-Man film was recently announced by Sony Pictures as part of their Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The movie will be produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige, who are both interested in doing another trilogy with Tom Holland.

Watts added, “Creating three Spider-Man films was an unforgettable and life-changing experience for me. I’m eternally grateful to have been a Marvel Cinematic Universe part for seven years. I’m looking forward to seeing Fantastic Four come to life, and I hope we’ll work together again.”

It appears that, as long on board as key participants are, Spider-Man 4 with either Tobey Maguire or Tom Holland (or, in the direction of No Way Home, both actors) is a likely possibility. In May 2022, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder will be released as Marvel-related films for theatrical presentation.
