Rio Kapadia (1957-2023) was an Indian actor, who is known for his work in the Hindi film and television industries. He took his last breath on 14 September 2023.

Rio Kapadia played the role of Shankaran in the Bollywood film ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ (2001). He gained immense popularity for playing the role of Australian commentator in the film ‘Chak De! India’ (2007). In 2020, he played the role of Commander Ali Azam Ghazi in the film ‘Khuda Haafiz,’ starring Vidyut Jammwal.

In 2021, he appeared alongside Abhishek Bachchan in the film ‘The Big Bull.’ The film was digitally released on the OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar. He appeared in some more films including ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’ (2008), ‘Aakhari Decision’ (2010), ‘Agent Vinod’ (2012), ‘Shree'(2013), ‘Mardaani’ (2014), and ‘Happy New Year’ (2014).


In 2000, Rio Kapadia made an episodic appearance in the detective-crime television drama series ‘Suraag – The Clue,’ on DD National in which he played the role of Jasvendra Kapoor.

He played the role of Vikram Ahuja in the television drama series ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ (2000), on StarPlus. In 2004, he played the role of Chief Executive Officer of Right News Channel in the superhero television series ‘Karma – Koi Aa Raha Hai Waqt Badalney.’ The series was broadcast on StarPlus. In 2013, he appeared in the TV show ‘Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke,’ which aired on Zee TV. He essayed the role of Akash Kumar Sandhu (Gunjan’s father) in the series.

His performance as King Subala in the historical epic television series ‘Mahabharat’ (2013), on StarPlus, received huge appreciation from the audience.

Rio Kapadia played the role of Major General M. Sundar Raman in the web series ‘The Test Case’ (2017), which premiered on ALT Balaji. In 2019, he essayed the role of Manekshaw Nanavati in the web series ‘The Verdict – State vs Nanavati.’ The series was streamed on the OTT platforms ZEE5 and ALT Balaji.

Rio Kapadia took his last breath on 14 September 2023. His last rites were performed at Shiv Dham Shamshan Bhumi, Goregaon on 15 September 2023 at 11 a.m.
